1. Discuss the importance of quality team works, and team building.
Team work brings a group of individuals with a common goal and colliding with each other to achieve the mission efficiently. Quality team works satisfy the needs of human connection as well as results into brainstorming. The entire team overcomes each other’s negative qualities which prove to be a better team in itself, thus the team improves communication, trust as well as individual potential. Hence quality team works results in continual feedback and improved output quality.
Team building has its own importance as the better the team; the better will be the output of that team. Team building results in covering all aspects so that the objectives are efficiently fulfilled as well as the compatibility of the team members is also taken into account. Setting up the structure of the team is also a part of team building which would define the team leader and define the individual role of every member in the team. The structure provides a character to the team, which would lead to reduced time consumption while achieving better quality output.
2. How would you handle conflicts in quality teams?
Some of the common factors such as ambition to go ahead of others, narcissist attitude, stubbornness and personal ego lead to the ignition of conflict in the team, which occurs in even the best teams. The conflicts in a team can easily be resolved by forming and executing strategies as per requirement. A culture should be established where dissent is brought into balance and define the decision making authorities if it has to be made by an individual or a team. Acknowledging necessary cooperation with the team and just work on getting the right amount of cooperation in the team where healthy competition would be appreciated and disregard any competition that works as an obstacle to the objectives of the team. People with varied personalities should be assigned so that dissent is presented and encourage when problems are solved and avoid any personal dissent in the group. Conflicts should be assessed immediately as if they are constructive or destructive and encourage the former and resolve the latter.
3. How do you reward quality achievements in a team?
Some organization believes that employees can be rewarded only through money and their paychecks, but it can prove to be much more effective by providing certain incentives. Usually employees feel a great sense of satisfaction and take pride in what they do, so this should be acknowledged in front of the people whom he cares about, especially his family and his friends. Many incentives can also be rewarded such as providing better parking space better amenities such as better housing facilities or better insurance for him as well as his family. A dinner with a senior level manager or acknowledgement from them in public is also considered as a reward. Declaration of employee of the month and providing the opportunity to identify as an employee of the month on public website also works as a great motivation for the employee hence works as a huge reward.
4. How do you communicate effectively?
Communication is the process of successfully conveying the thoughts of one person to another. Technically, when a message received is understood and acted upon it can be termed as effective communication for which the sender is entirely responsible. The effective communication involves four steps:
o Pursuing the sender which involves transmitting the entire message to the sender.
o Motivating the sender to perform the task which has been transmitted in the message.
o Monitoring the task, this involves the supervision of the task if it has been followed successfully.
o Leadership, which involves answering the queries if any, and solving any problems that occur performing the task.
Effective communication is generally performed by managers and team leaders in order to complete an important task.
5. Why are listening skills important?
Listening skills are the skills which help a person receiving, decoding and accurately perceiving the message. The lack of these skills would lead to misinterpretation of the message and would lead to the task being incomplete. If a person is lacking the concentration skills, then he can misinterpret the message and perform something different than what he is being asked to do or miss the entire message. Interrupting the sender can also be considered as a lack of listening skill where interrupting the sender breaks his concentration and leads to the incompletion of effective communication. Even preconceived ideas and thinking ahead can be considered as lack of listening skills as they can lead to misconceptions of judgments and them often think ahead of the conversation and find themselves to be alone, which is a clear indication of impatient and hurried process and hence leads to miscommunication. Tuning out is another sign of lack of skill where a person pretends he is listening, understanding but he is not and hence leads to the incompletion of the task.
6. What are the management strategies for quality-focused interpersonal needs?
Interpersonal needs are the necessities of the people to work together, which results in personal as well as corporate success. The interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate and for better quality output. The interpersonal communication between the customers and employers and the organization is a must to maintain and improve the total quality.
As explained in the figure the four strategies are for the interpersonal needs where the four strategies are recognition of the need, careful selection, training and measurement and reward.
7. What are the principles of overcoming negativity and conflicts in the workplace?
Any behavior which obstructs the optimum performance of the organization can be termed as negativity. Eliminating these negativities is must to obtain a better quality output hence strategies have been formed to overcome these negativities. Communication is an important role where continual communication plays best defense against negativity in organizations. Establishing clear expectations would explain the individual roles of each employee. There can be stressful situations in the organizations where vents are required to be provided to create a positive surrounding in workspace, thus providing anxiety venting can also be helpful in overcoming negativity. Building trust and involve employees would include building the trust factor among employees and organization as well as involve employees into various decision making process would help overcoming negativity in organization.
Human conflicts are inevitable to avoid in any organization but these conflicts have to be handled properly in specific time. The issue has to be discussed privately and positively among all the people involved and determine the importance of the issue. The issue has to be discussed and opinions have to be expressed among each other, The solutions has to be proposed and hence the evaluation of these solutions have to be performed, pros and cons have to be calculated and thus a mutual decision has to be taken among all the people involved in the conflict and the organization.
8. How can you manage conflict in the workplace?
In any organization conflicts are very healthy aspect of competitive workplace, where conflicts are responsible for continual questioning among employees and achieve an effective quality setting. When there is no disagreement and employees agree too easily the organization becomes stagnant, hence it becomes necessary to stimulate a conflict, and thus the conflict is managed in a proper manner, this process can be termed as conflict management. Sometimes workplaces have excess conflicts as well, in these situations the conflicts have to be properly resolved. The causes of the conflicts have to be found and the solutions are discussed and thus the decision has to be made of how the conflict will be resolved. Thus, in order to manage conflict in a workplace one must control, the necessity of the conflict, recognize the importance of the issue and thus work accordingly if the conflict has to be resolved or has to be stimulated.
9. How do you communicate in conflict situations?
In a workplace where conflicts are normal communication is very critical. The initial attitude of the people predicts where the argument is going to lead to, hence communication in such situations, both the parties having conflict are aiming to come to a positive and cooperative solution. In case of exacerbated situations, both parties should be given prior guidelines regarding the powers to take the decision and the issues to be discussed. Emphasis should be laid upon getting a proper solution rather than blaming each other through the discussion. In case the solution proposed, proves to be a failure, rather than working on the same new ideas should be brainstormed and should prefer to avoid the ideas similar to the failed ones. The conflicts can’t be resolved immediately hence In order to maintain trust between two parties is a must by keeping the promises made.
10. Why does the quality suffer if there is a major conflict?
In the case of a major conflict taking place in an organization, majority of people are involved in it and hence a lot of man power is consumed in order to resolve the conflict which affects the quality abruptly. Time, energy and power are consumed in resolving the conflict and resolving major conflicts consumes huge amount of time which then affects the quality in a huge way. The solution which is promised by the organization also consumes resources and prevents the two parties to work with each other until the solution has been implemented and hence the quality suffers due to it. There is a possibility of there being a permanent damage to the relationship between the two parties as well as between the organization and the parties which can lead to a huge loss to the total quality .
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF SOCIAL NETWORKING ARTICLES
Adding Intelligence to Rotary Encoders
The article talks about introduction of capacitive rotary encoders with built-in intelligence by CUI,Inc. They have included a microcontroller and custom ASIC in the design of rotary encoders. The microcontroller gives the encoder a considerable degree of versatility, giving developers the ability to configure the encoder’s resolution, zero position, pole count and similar. Configurable resolution allows the developer to adjust the encoder for optimum match with a PID control algorithm. Configurable zero resolution reduces the time needed to install and align the encoder. Intelligence in encoder provides diagnostic data which are used by developers to eliminate the encoder from the suspect list during debugging, provides insight into encoder health before failures occur and allow systems to verify that the encoders are operating before engaging motors in critical motion-control applications, to avoid possible damage.
One of the members in this discussion strongly feels that adding intelligence to the encoders would merely increase the cost and suggests that we should stick to traditional circuits for the devices. However, I along with other participants believe that this is just one aspect of it. Our aim here is to achieve zero-defect and quality control which is possible by using microcontrollers and making the device intelligent. What seems to be costly today will prove to be cost efficient later.

Disney Robot Draws Giant Sketches on the Beach
This article talks about Disney’s new innovation, Beachbot. Beachbot is a robot which creates new artwork in the sand. It carries a computer with Wi-Fi, an inertial measurement unit (IMU), and a laser scanner. It uses the laser, mounted on its back, to detect four poles placed on the beach. The poles delimit the boundaries of a “canvas,” and the robot uses the laser data and the IMU to locate itself and navigate with millimeter accuracy within that area. Disney did have a few hurdles while designing this robot. Beachbot currently works on 10-meter-by-10-meter-canvases. Disney is now working on extending the canvases up to a kilometer.
I am in agreement with participants on Moodle and agree that Disney is an innovative and technologically advanced company. They have come up with an unconventional device and there seem to be no quality issues with Beachbot. We are looking forward to seeing the kilometer long Beachbot soon.

Union To Discuss IN Pillsbury Plant Set To Close
The article talks about General Mills pending decision to shut down Pillsbury plant post the meeting with Union officials. They plan to close its refrigerated goods plant-Pillsbury plant in mid 2016 if they decide to close it down. The union has many employees working here for so many years and closing will be devastating to them. Employees make $26-$27 an hour, up to $100,000 annually with overtime, in addition to the benefits that are rare in other organizations. This means that General Mills is facing financial issues. The management team of General Mills is expecting ideas and alternatives to keep the plant in operation, sustain the high wages and breakeven the high overhead cost.
A participant on Moodle suggested that they are closing because they didn't have a lean strategy management in place for their process and their production. However, I along with other participants feel that the union is not playing fair here by supporting the undeserving employees. According to us, the union should take strategic decisions by keeping the right people and manage their wages and implement a mechanism to make sure that employees don’t do overtime when not required.
